Central to the religious life of the school is the person of Jesus Christ who came among us ‘as one who serves’ (Luke 22.27). Our Catholic school is committed to reaching out to help those in need, through charitable outreach initiatives. All outreach activities connect to the person of Jesus Christ and to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Drawing on the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church, we have a deep commitment to supporting a range of charitable organisations, families and individuals in need.

At St Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Primary School Hurstville, we have a proud tradition of supporting a number of organisations, families and individuals organised by our Mini Vinnies Student leaders.  Our school has close connections with the St Vincent de Paul Society, The Gethsemane House, Helping Our Own Oz and Caritas Australia. Our Mini Vinnies student leaders educate other students about the importance of Social Justice and lead prayer services.

Our school has a strong partnership with Greenwood Cottage, a respite care centre in Bexley where students from Year 3 to 6 spend time with the clients.
